After a very productive test day on the Friday, where I got my first taste of the challenging Oulton Park circuit, it was a very busy Saturday with qualifying and three races all in the same day.
Qualifying went well and I put it on P4 for the opening race of the day with a lap time of 1:53:848. In race 1 lost a position off the start but was involved in a three car battle for the final podium position. Unfortunately as we were battling, the group behind caught up and I lost two positions. On the final lap of the race, I made up one position to finish the race in 6th place.
Race 2 saw me start in 6th position, I made up one position off the start but a large crash on the opening lap saw the safety car deployed.Unfortunately the rest of the race was run behind the safety car as the cars needed to be cleared and the barriers repaired so I finished in 5th position.
Race 3 was a reverse top 9 grid. So I started the race in 5th. Off the start I got boxed in behind the pole sitter and lost a number of positions to the cars on the outside line of turn 1.I was down in 9th position on lap 1 but I made up 3 positions during the course of the race after losing quite a lot of time behind slightly slower cars as I made my overtakes. I was closing in on 5th position but I ran out of laps before I could make any sort of challenge for the position. Overall my pace in the race was good and it was just unfortunate I lost time and positions off the start.
It was a positive weekend as firstly, these results see me move up to fifth in the championship and another positive was how competitive my lap times were. It just goes to show how important track time is in such a competitive championship. I am now looking forward to racing at Silverstone in a couple of weeks time.
